A Timeline of the Airport Contracting Controversies

Hartsfield Jackson Airport and the City of Atlanta recently concluded the largest round of contract bidding ever seen in North America. The contracts at stake were worth over $3 billion dollars. Given the enormity of the process, CCGA advocated for the City Council to delay rushing the process along, and take time to investigate how the process was conducted. The Council decided to move forward without pause, and rubber-stamped the proposed contracts in early January. Now that the process has concluded, information about the controversial process is coming to light. Below are some of the major media stories regarding the recently discovered connections and actions that are calling the process’s integrity into question.

    Is anyone looking at the costs of construction that would be a way to reward the donor companies??

      Currently CCGA does not have the resources to look into those numbers. But we did team up with Dale Cardwell to give a press briefing last Wednesday about the perception problems involved with the the opening of Terminal F. In a press briefing Cardwell noted that construction costs for the International Terminal are not in line with other comparable projects.

      Specifically: Atlanta Concourse F cost 1.58 billion for 12 gates or $ 125 million per gate (Did not require major amount of demolition. 
      LaGuardia New Terminal cost $3.6 billion for 38 gates or $94 million per gate (Price includes major costs of demolishing old terminal and two hangars).

      Rest assured we will not stop pushing for pay-to-play reform, so that future projects will not be subject to the perception problems this one has. Check back soon for more about what Cardwell and CCGA uncovered.
